A perfect Fit

In seeking a hero pendant for the re-design of Fashion Boutique Alterior Motif we were ultimately looking for a product and designer that imbued the same principles and ethos of supporting local and sustainable products.

It was love at first sight when we saw the newly released ‘JOLLY PENDANT’ by fellow advocate of ‘slow design’, Kate Stokes. Fastidious in her pursuit of quality design through detail, finding joy in creating products with personality, designed to last a lifetime.

We selected the Jolly Single pendant and its sister the Jolly Double to be our subtle hero’s in the store.

Arising from the desire to create a playful lighting collection, Jolly is an exploration of form and material. Translucent, hand-blown glass is juxtaposed against solid coloured metal rods and shades to create a balance of material composition, while the asymmetric elfin-like form injects a cheerful sense of joy.

Working from their studio, within a collective warehouse space designed to support and promote small businesses in the heart of Melbourne’s creative district, Kate Stokes is a passionate supporter of local industry. So it was no surprise that we felt Kate and Coco Flip fit perfectly into the narrative of Alterior Motif and Penny’s ethos of supporting local designers and sustainable design principles.
