Local Fashion icon Penny Lane, director of Alterior Motif approached the RDS team to help re-imagine her Noosa boutique in Hastings Street. From the get go we were very tuned in to the same approach; Supporting local makers and trades, reusing & upcycling any existing fittings.
The brief: Create a feeling of coastal retro nostalgia that is not too busy and allows the brands to speak. The shop had to be subtle and cohesive and approachable. Injecting more lightness and light and thoughtful consideration to space planning so the store flowed and felt larger.
We are big believers that great design is a collaborative approach and there was no exception when it came to Penny. We have retained as much of the original store as we could to save on cost, waste and time, whilst reinventing the space to feel larger, flow better and have a lot more lightness. RDS were also engaged to design the landscaping at the front of the store. What was once just little tufts of purple Liriope is now a very happy rockery of drought tolerant sculptural plants that can hold its own on Hastings Street. A combination of hardy natives teamed with exotic succulents and stone. The entire renovation was done in 8 days thanks to meticulous planning and project management by our rock stars Samantha & Amanda which reduced loss of income.

“When it was time to refit our shop, we researched our local interior designers and came across Renegade through word of mouth. When I met with Sophia we instantly clicked and I felt comfortable and found her to be easy to talk to, and extremely knowledgeable, so we signed up! I had my ideas of how I wanted the store to look and feel, I wanted to incorporate local artisans and sustainable elements to our design and they were completely on board and came with a wealth of knowledge to help us achieve that vision and feedback on ideas that would, and wouldn’t work within the space.
The installation process was a dream. Of course, we had a few hiccups but as soon as there was a challenge, it was met with solutions to keep everything moving in a timely manner, which was crucial as we were under a strict time schedule. The girls were constantly present on site to oversee and manage everything which was such a relief as I could not be there for parts of the process. The girls were organised, had excellent attention to detail and had a very tightly run ship with their tradesmen, which is so valuable! We achieved an incredible result with a very high-end finish within the time frame allocated. I would have to give my experience with Renegade a 10/10, they were a pleasure to work with and I would highly recommend them to anyone that was thinking about engaging them for their work.”
